Providence is calling a Medical Technologist (Clinical Laboratory Services, Days, 1.0 FTE / 40 hours per week) to Providence St. Joseph's Hospital in Chewelah, Washington. In this position you will:
Under the general direction of the Laboratory Supervisor, perform, evaluate and report results on specimens received for analysis; solve problems, instruct new employees and students, operate instruments and perform maintenance function checks and troubleshooting.
Analysis - Perform a variety of diagnostic testing and follow established guidelines for the prioritization of work. Met target performance metrics for safety and quality.
Reporting - Evaluate testing results for accuracy and appropriate intervention, perform computer data entry and maintain expertise with computer systems.
Critical Values - Respond to critical values according to department protocol to assure patient safety and timely clinical procedures.
Troubleshooting - Intervene to correct problems encountered when an instrument / test methodology fails.
Maintenance - Perform instrument/equipment and reagent /supply maintenance functions.
Miscellaneous Duties - Demonstrate willingness to participate in additional job assignments.
Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement - Maintain ongoing and overall quality of the total testing process, relative to meeting patient's and customer's needs. Adhere to published facility SOPs and protocols.
Actively support and incorporate the mission and core values into daily activities. Treat all others with respect and demonstrate excellence, justice and compassion in daily work and relationships with others.
Maintain confidentiality of all information related to patients, medical staff, employees, and as appropriate, other information.
Demonstrate service excellence and positive interpersonal relations in dealing with others, including patients/families/members, employees, managers, medical staff, volunteers and community members, so that productivity and positive relations are maximized.
Consistently demonstrate and incorporate principles of safety and infection control into daily activities as outlined in Safety manual and department safety policies/procedures. Consistently use personal protective equipment as required and take appropriate precautions whenever there is a potential for contact with blood, body fluids, chemicals and/or other hazardous materials. Maintain knowledge of work-appropriate aspects of environment of care programs, comply with policies and reports unsafe conditions. Successfully complete mandatory education within the required time frames and participate in fire drills and emergency exercises.
Continuing Education - Maintain and keep current skills and knowledge for the job through continued education programs and participation on the local laboratory competency program.
Quality Control - Analyze and evaluate quality control checks to assure accurate patient results.
Teaching - Demonstrate procedures, instrumentation and techniques to train staff.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Bachelor's Degree in Related health science.
Medical Technologist with National Certification – or equivalent required. If registry eligible, certification within one year required.
